Population: The 2013 Census recorded the population of New Zealand at 4,242,048 people, covering an area of 268.021square kilometers. New Zealand consists of two main landmasses - the North Island; Te Ika-a-Maui and the South Island; Te Waipounamu.
Elementary schools: Elementary schools, referred to as Primary in New Zealand is from Year 1 (5 years old) through to Year 8 (12 - 13 years old). Number of Elementary Schools: In 2013 the number of elementary schools in New Zealand was 1979 and at that time there were 435,532 children attending elementary school. New Zealand schools are ranked and divided into ten groups called deciles. Decile ranking relates to the socio-economics of the community in which schools draw there students from. Household income and numbers, occupation, qualifications and income support levels are factors used to calculate a schools decile ranking. For example; a decile 1 school would be in a lower socio-economic area. Internet Users: In 2012 1.3 million New Zealand homes (80%) had some form of internet connection. This was a five percent increase since 2009. |
